This paper’s purpose is to obtain an understanding upon the Black Panther Party and its trials and tributes during the heightened period of the Civil Rights Movement from 1966 to 1982. This interview with Mr. Billy X Jennings, a former Black Panther, examines the efforts made by the Black Panther Party to achieve global equality and made by the FBI’s program COINTELPRO to destroy the Party. Mr. Jennings’ accounts of his experiences along with historians’ perspectives on racial equality in America and abroad clarifies for the present and future the past’s mistakes and allows them greater chances to avoid traveling the past’s path once again.
