Description

As the timeless years go on, it becomes increasingly difficult to recall the smaller, yet still significant events that have shaped our history and The Gulf War, also known as Operation Desert Shield/Storm, is no different. America’s unprecedented military sweep of Iraq in just a remarkable amount of time to rescue Kuwait from the tyrannical regime of Saddam Hussein marks a time where America’s s dominant military status was restored after being haunted by the horrors of the Vietnam War, which would seem fascinating and relevant. Yet except for Gulf War veterans like Matthew Henson, this war has been forgotten about in the eyes of the general public and is considered to have a seemingly insignificant impact on history. However, Henson’s story sheds light on the importance of the overlooked Gulf War and serves as a reminder to pay notice to the little-known events in history that are undoubtedly more salient than they seem.
